Welcome to Scroll Tax. By using our mobile application, you agree to these Terms of Service ("Terms"). Please read them carefully.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By creating an account and using Scroll Tax, you agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the app.

2. Description of Service

Scroll Tax is a screen time management app that helps you reduce app usage through financial accountability. You set time limits for selected apps and stake money. If you stay under your limit, you keep your stake. If you exceed your limit, you forfeit your stake.

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to use Scroll Tax. By using the app, you represent that you are at least 18 years old and have the legal capacity to enter into these Terms.

4. Account Requirements

• You must sign in with a valid Apple ID
• You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account
• You must provide accurate information
• You may not share your account with others
• You must notify us immediately of any unauthorized access

5. Challenge Rules

5.1 How Challenges Work

• You create a challenge by selecting apps to track, setting a weekly time limit, and depositing a stake amount
• Challenges run from Monday 12:00 AM to Sunday 11:59 PM
• Your device tracks usage of selected apps using Apple's Screen Time API
• If you stay under your time limit, you keep your entire stake
• If you exceed your time limit by any amount, you forfeit your entire stake

5.2 Challenge Deposits

• Stakes range from $5 to $100 per challenge
• Stakes are held by Stripe during active challenges
• Successful challenges result in automatic refunds to your original payment method
• Failed challenges result in forfeited stakes

5.3 Cancellation Policy

• You may cancel a challenge before it starts (before Monday 12:00 AM) for a full refund
• Once a challenge starts, it cannot be cancelled
• Refunds are processed to your original payment method within 5-10 business days

6. Payments and Refunds

6.1 Payment Processing

• All payments are processed securely through Stripe
• We accept major credit and debit cards
• You authorize us to charge your payment method for challenge stakes

6.2 Refund Policy

• Successful Challenges: Automatic full refund of your stake
• Pre-Start Cancellation: Full refund if cancelled before Monday 12:00 AM
• Failed Challenges: No refund - stake is forfeited
• Technical Issues: If our service fails to track usage correctly due to a technical error on our end, we will issue a full refund

6.3 Disputes

If you believe there was an error in tracking your usage, you must contact us within 48 hours of the challenge ending. We will investigate and make a determination based on the data available.

7. Screen Time Tracking

7.1 Accuracy

• We use Apple's Screen Time API to track app usage
• Accuracy depends on iOS system data
• You are responsible for ensuring Screen Time permissions are granted
• We are not liable for inaccuracies in iOS Screen Time data

7.2 Your Responsibilities

• Do not tamper with device settings to manipulate tracking
• Do not attempt to circumvent usage monitoring
• Ensure your device has accurate time and date settings

8. Prohibited Conduct

You agree not to:

• Use the app for any illegal purpose
• Attempt to manipulate or circumvent usage tracking
• Reverse engineer or decompile the app
• Use the app in a way that could damage or overload our systems
• Create multiple accounts to abuse refund policies
• Chargeback legitimate failed challenges through your payment provider

9. Intellectual Property

Scroll Tax and all associated content, features, and functionality are owned by us and protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.

11. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW:

• We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages
• Our total liability is limited to the amount you paid in stakes over the past 12 months
• We are not liable for losses resulting from iOS updates, device issues, or third-party services

12. Account Termination

12.1 By You

You may delete your account at any time. Active challenges will continue until completion.

12.2 By Us

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account if you:

• Violate these Terms
• Engage in fraudulent activity
• Abuse the refund system
• Attempt to manipulate tracking

13. Changes to Service

We reserve the right to:

• Modify or discontinue the service at any time
• Change pricing for future challenges (existing challenges are honored at original price)
• Update features and functionality

14. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes through the app or via email. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.

15. Dispute Resolution

15.1 Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the State of California, without regard to conflict of law principles.

15.2 Arbitration

Any disputes will be resolved through binding arbitration rather than in court, except you may assert claims in small claims court if they qualify.

15.3 Class Action Waiver

You agree to resolve disputes with us on an individual basis and waive any right to participate in class action lawsuits.

16. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.
